Jackie Pickett, age 88, a Las Vegas area resident for almost 70 years, passed away in Las Cruces, NM on February 6, 2022. Jackie was born in Sweetwater, Texas on October 28, 1933. She was the youngest of 3 daughters born to Jack and Lucy Hadderton. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her parents, and her oldest sister, LaNeel Pierce. She is survived by her sister LaVerna Rogers of Eastland, TX, her 3 children and their spouses, Debbie Tixier (Wendell) of Las Cruces, NM, BeckieMosimann (Martin) of Wagon Mound, NM, and Troy Pickett (Teri) of Deming, NM. Seven grandchildren: Shellie Dutton (Kyle), Jolie Benevidez (Frankie), Trey Tixier (Hollie), Wendell Mosimann, Travis Mosimann (Sarah), Tel Pickett (Josy), and Tee Pickett, 3 great granddaughters: Aliyah and Addison Tixier, and Opal Mosimann, and one special nephew: Bozo Rogers (Karla) of Eastland, TX, and several nieces.
Jackie grew up during the great depression, and they lived in a number of places in Texas, wherever her dad could find work. In 1951, after graduating high school from Lovington, NM, they moved to Las Vegas, where she met and married Clyde Pickett on November 23, 1951. They were both 18 years old at the time, and were married for 68 years, until his death in 2020. They both loved country music and dancing, and were great dancers. In the early years of their marriage, they worked on several ranches in the Las Vegas area. She liked to go with Clyde horseback or with him to feed cattle. She did a lot of cooking for ranch cowboy crews, and was a great cook. She fed not only her family, but countless friends or family that stopped by their house through the years. No one ever left her kitchen hungry. She kept us kids well dressed with her sewing skills as well. She was a 4-H leader for a long time, hauled us to lots of junior and high school rodeos, sat and watched us from the stands no matter the weather, hot, cold, wind, rain, and ate a truck load of dust through the years doing that, a real trooper. We did lots of fun things, picnics, etc. She loved all of her family very much.
On the professional side, she worked for both the Las Vegas police department and the NM State police as a secretary and a radio dispatcher. She had always wanted to be a nurse, but got sidetracked raising a family, then, when her youngest was almost out of high school she went back to school and became a nurse, which she thoroughly enjoyed until retirement.
There will be a celebration of life for both Jackie and Clyde, since we could not have one for Clyde in 2020.The service will be at Rogers Mortuary on Friday, February 18th, at 1pm, followed by burial for both at the Masonic Cemetery.
