Joseph Perea went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2022, at the age of 68. Joseph was born in Trinidad, Colorado on January 16, 1953, to the late John and Cleo Perea. He graduated from Trinidad High School in 1971 where he was active in sports, especially basketball. Having learned the enjoyment of the sport. Joseph proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1973-1976. Joseph married the love of his life Sandra in November of 1977. He graduated from Trinidad State Junior College having earned his Associate of Arts Degree in 1985. Joseph was known as Mr. Perea to the community, as he was an educator and Athletic Director for Trinidad Catholic School. Joseph took great joy in volunteering with the local schools and the big brother program. Joseph enjoyed fishing, John Wayne “The Duke”, and watching sports on television. Joseph was a faithful member of Trinity Bible Baptist Church. Joseph was a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Papa, and friend to many. Joseph entered retirement in 2011. During retirement Joseph spend time with his family where he exceeded beyond measure as our “Papa Joe”.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Sandra. Children Selina Perea, Daniel Perea, Pamela Perea, and Angel Perea (Aaron Ohman). Grandson’s Michael (Samantha) Garcia and Justin Reynolds who he raised as sons. Brothers John S Perea, Larry (Mona) Perea, Adrian Perea, Leroy (Anna) Perea, and Arthur Perea. Sisters Linda Archuleta, Anna Marie Vasquez. Brother in Laws Ralph Martinez, Louis (Sharon) Martinez, Anthony Martinez, Phillip (Pam Avila) Martinez, and Gilbert Torres. Sister in Laws Bernadette Perea and Judi (Tom) Blan. 8 Grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents John and Cleo Perea and Father and Mother in Law Vincent and Francis Martinez. Brother Anthony Perea. Sisters Francis Cortez, Anna Mae Torres, and Geraldine Bernal. Brother in Laws Luis Cortez, Luther Archuleta, and Leonard Vasquez. Sister in Laws Hannelore Perea and Abigail Perea.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 3 pm-6 pm at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 21, 2022at 1 pm at the Trinity Bible Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery with graveside services conducted by the US Air Force Honor Guard.

Honorary Pallbearers are his grandsons: Michael Garcia, Justin Reynolds, Derrick Perea Eliot Ohman.
