Roy Edward Wooten, age 83 of Westminster, Colorado, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021. He was born February 19, 1938 in Trinidad, Colorado to Ed and Sue Wooten. He grew up in Raton, New Mexico and attended New Mexico State University, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Civil engineering, and subsequently worked as a structural engineer for over 55 years. In 1972, he established his own private consulting structural engineering firm, Roy E. Wooten & Associates. Throughout his engineering career, he designed numerous and varied structures as well as oversaw many conventional and implosion demolition projects. Business-wise, his greatest joy and satisfaction was working on church-related projects.
He resided in many places throughout the United States and enjoyed travel abroad establishing life-long friendships along the way. Roy was a devoted Christian passionate about sharing his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. He served as a Sunday school teacher for both high school and college students for many years. Roy was also an active member of The Gideons International for 41 years where he held multiple offices. Roy enjoyed attending church, spending time with his family, watching sports, collecting roadrunners, and joshing with people. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather known for his sense of humor, friendly nature, kindness and generosity.
Roy is survived by his wife, Patricia Wooten; his son, Steve (Joy) Wooten of Kim, Colorado; daughter, Barbara (Randy) Pond of Fountain, Colorado; and son Douglas Wooten of Lakewood, Colorado; seven grandchildren: Niki (Rusty) Henard; Arin (Brady) Burnham; Lee (Heidi) Pond; Jessica (Aaron) Maslow; Justin (Julie) Pond; Daniel (Regan) Pond; and Misty Givan; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Mason, Thora, Avery, Bray, Kolbi, Caiden, John Tell, Vinson, Owen, Lincoln, Beauregard, Adlee, and Cambria. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Keith (Jinnie) Wooten of Stevensville, MI; Don (Patty) Wooten of Battle Creek, MI; Joline Johnson of Raleigh, NC; Janet Hoy of Maxwell, NM; Glenna Blann of Raleigh, NC; and many beloved nieces, nephew and cousins. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Wilma Cunico, brothers-in-law: Pete Johnson, Bill Cunico, Charles Hoy, and Dale Blann; Betty Wooten; and grandson-in-law Marc Givan.
Visitation will be Monday, January 17, 2022, 11:00-3:00 a.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery at 29th & Wadsworth in Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 5140 Carr Street, Arvada, CO 80004. Burial at Olinger Crown Hill immediately following the service; Reception at Olinger Crown Hill from 12:30 to 2:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Roy’s name, may be made to The Gideons International, Denver West Camp, PO Box 1715, Wheat Ridge, CO 80034.
