On May 16th, 2020, the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on possible trafficking of Methamphetamines through the United States Postal Service. The narcotics were originating and being shipped from California, to Raton, NM. Upon further investigation the Sheriff’s office, along with the United States Postal Inspectors were able to successfully intercept a package that was in route to be delivered to Raton. The package contained 137 grams of Crystal Methamphetamines. The total street value of the drugs was approximately $10,000. In a joint operation with the United States Postal inspectors, the Sheriff’s office conducted an operation, and successfully apprehended Elma Jean Sanchez. Sanchez was charged Federally by the United States Post Office and was charged locally by the Sheriff’s Office with Trafficking of a Controlled Substance.
