In Loving Memory of Anthony Romero Sr.

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, Anthony Romero Sr. passed away and went to be with our Lord and Savior at the young age of 53. Anthony was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and longtime resident of Springer, NM. He was one of fourteen children born on December 29, 1967, to Salomon and Eleanor Romero.

Anthony grew up in Springer, NM with his parents and 13 siblings. He attended and graduated from Springer High School in 1987. On December 8, 1990, he married his high school sweetheart Bernadette Chavez. Bernadette was the love of his life. Together they raised two boys Anthony Jr, and Bryan.

Anthony was a hard worker and served different occupations in his lifetime. After graduating from high school, he joined the National Guard. He did 10 years of service. Following, he spent most his career in Foodservice. He served as a Foodservice Director for different Corrections Facilities, Fast Food Franchises, and public schools. His last line of work he served as a Youth Care Specialist at the Eagle Nest Reintegration Center.  

Anthony was a devout Christian and was a member of the Family Worship Center in Raton, NM. He was an active member in his church and served his community in several ways. He participated in local food distributions and First Responders dinner events that the church held. Additionally, he was the Springer Pee Wee Board President for about 15 years.

Anthony was a family man who loved spending his time with his family. The four of them were inseparable. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent the summers camping with his family. Additionally, he was a sports fanatic. He was a faithful fan as he watched his Philadelphia Eagles every Sunday. His favorite games to watch involved his two sons. He and his wife attended every game that their boys played. He was his boys’ biggest fan and enjoyed watching them compete. Everyone that has held a conversation with Anthony knows that he was a fun, loving and outgoing person. He made everyone feel like family. He had good rapport with everyone. His smile was contagious. Everyone he encountered loved him.  

Anthony is preceded in death by his father, Salomon Romero Sr., his nephews Fred (Pogo) Romero Jr., Jesse Garcia, and Timoteo Martinez.

Anthony is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bernadette Romero, his two sons Anthony Jr and Bryan Romero of Springer, N.M., his mother Eleanor Romero of Springer, NM, his brother Salomon Romero Jr. of Springer, NM, his brother Mike Romero of Albuquerque, NM, his brother Bob Romero and wife Kelly of Bernalillo, NM, his sister Mary Alice Gutierrez of Raton, NM, his brother Fred Romero of Raton, NM, his sister Juanita and husband Thomas Ybarra of Roy, NM, his sister Anita and husband Tim Martinez of Wagon Mound, NM, his sister Theresa and husband Ed Abreu of Las Vegas, NM, his brother Albert Romero and wife Cathy of Springer, NM, his sister Christina and husband Ray McFall of Philmont, NM, his sister Dolores Romero of Cimarron, NM, his brother Juan Romero and wife Debbie of Springer, NM, his sister Lenore and husband Adam Cordova of Springer, NM, his Father in-law Alfonso Chavez and Mother in-law Pita Chavez, Brother in-law Robert Chavez and wife Debbie of Springer, NM, Sister in-law Yolanda Montoya and husband Danny of Albuquerque, NM, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews, and great-great nieces.  

The funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, at 11 AM at the Sim Brown Gymnasium (1401 8th Street) in Springer, NM with Pastor Joshua Wood officiating. The burial will happen immediately after the service at Springer Cemetery (1308 Fourth Street). A reception will follow the burial at the Sim Brown Gymnasium. Pallbearers will be Salomon Romero Jr, Mike Romero, Bob Romero, Fred Romero, Albert Romero, and Juan Romero. Honorary Pallbearers are Alfonso Chavez, Robert Chavez, Danny Montoya, Larry Lester, Danny Esquibel, Ben Cordova, Lorenzo Vigil and Wes Dye. The funeral services will be under the supervision of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home, Inc.
