William “Bill” Young, Age 91, went home to be with the Lord on October 25, 2021.
He was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on July 20, 1930, to Grace and Roy Young. He attended High School at Elk Local High School where he graduated in 1948.
On March 12, 1951, William enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably as an Electrician’s Mate for 21 years. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
William married the love of his life, Wanda McCann, in Fillmore, California, on November 26, 1954.
Upon retiring from the Navy in 1971, William started Clairemont Baptist Temple in San Diego, California, where he pastored until 1980.
He moved to Trinidad, Colorado, in 1981, and founded the Grace Baptist Temple of Trinidad which later merged with Bible Baptist Church. He also founded the Bible Believers Assembly where he pastored and taught Bible studies to his beloved members.
He was also a local business owner, worked as a foreman for Las Animas County, and drove a tractor-trailer for Amato Brothers Oil.
Preceding him in death are his parents Roy and Grace Young; his son, Robert Dean; brothers Jim and Marvin; and sisters Pat, Lois, and Elsie.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Young, his children Carol Reamy (Ken Reamy), Karen Climer (Jeff Climer), Cindy Shaffer (Terry Shaffer), Don Young, Daniel Young (Rhonda), thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, close family friends George and Patty Montoya and Beth Clowe as well as other numerous family and friends.
Visitation will be November 9, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral services will be held November 10, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the Comi Chapel.
Interment will be held privately at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
