Ray Lucero passed away unexpectedly on September 11, 2021, at his home in Trinidad, Colorado. Ray was born on April 8, 1960, in Denver, Colorado to Charles and Virginia Lucero.
He is proceeded in death by his father Charles, his son, Little Ray, his in-laws Herman and Eva Montoya, and his sister-in-law Beatrice DeHerrera. He is survived by his wife Veronica, daughter Kayla Montoya (Joe Ross III), sons Cody Lucero, Ryan (Edmarie) Meaux, Jeremiah Lucero, Caleb (Rachelle) Lucero, grandchildren Isabella Ross, JJ Ross, Audrina Lucero, and Victor Lucero. He is also survived by his mother Virginia, brothers-in-law Bob (El) Montoya, Dennis (Jeanette) Montoya, Pony (Debbie) Montoya, Frank (Paula) Montoya, Bill Montoya, Tim (Tina) Montoya, and his brother Chris Lucero, sisters-in-law Barbara Melendez, Linda DeMeo, Phyllis (Mickey) Griego, Carol DeVaul (Gilbert Bowman), Juay Montoya (Glenn Johnson) and his sisters Becky (Bob) Yoder, Terry (Leroy) Hohn, Angie (Bob) Schultz, and Melissa (Brad) Johnson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ray was a very loving man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his dog Blondie. He took great pride in all the work he did, especially his ability to run heavy equipment and pouring concrete. Ray loved watching the Miner football and wrestling teams, and any other sporting events involving his sons. He especially liked traveling to the wrestling tournaments and supporting Cody and all the other wrestlers. Ray will always be remembered cheering on and encouraging anyone who crossed paths with him. He would go out of his way to tell someone how proud he was of them.
There was a special place in Ray’s heart for brother and sister-in-law Michael and Adele Montoya, and brothers-in-law Gilbert Bowman and Pony Montoya. Ray also held a very special place in his heart for Nellie Perez. Nellie has been an instrumental part in the care, and support of Ray and the family.
Rays’ family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the first responders. They would also like to thank everyone for there love and support during this difficult time.
A memorial service for Ray will be held at Comi’s Funeral Home on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM. Following the services there will be a dinner in Rays honor at the Las Animas County Fairgrounds Expo Center.
