Lester L. (Lafe) Popejoy Jr. age 77 of Raton passed away Wednesday May 5, 2021 in Raton. He was born March 19, 1944 in Raton, NM. The son of Lester L. Sr. and Mary Cathrine Flynn-Popejoy. Lester was a forth generation rancher in the Raton area and a member of the St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Joseph Whitfll. He is survived by his wife Katie of the home and daughter Courtney Ford of Trinidad, CO. four sisters-in-law, Rosemond Heiser and husband Mike of Los Lunas, NM, Cindy Rokenfield of Cody, WY., Marjie Schaffer and husband Bob of Evans, GA. And Patt Whitfill of Palm Bay, FL. One brother-in-law, Jim Rockenfield of Ute Park, NM. And numerous niches and nephews.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Thursday May 13, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home in Raton recited by Marjie Long. Mass of the resurrection will be Friday May 14, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Patricks’s St.- Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton with Father William Woytavich as the celebrant. A private inurnment will be after the Mass.
