Raton hosted the Mesa Vista Lady Trojans Saturday afternoon April 24, 2021 in what turned out to be a very quiet Tiger Gym as Colfax County slipped back into the Red on the covid color scheme which meant no fans in the stands to cheer the girls on.
The JV took the floor first with Mesa Vista taking the early lead only and holding Raton to two points made by Sophie Medina. Raton turned the table by holding Mesa Vista to only two second quarter points while Raton added 10 points in the second quarter to go into the locker room ahead by two 12-10.
Third quarter saw Raton repeat the first quarter scoring while Mesa Vista added 15 and went on to win the game 37-24.
The Varsity game started out with Mesa Vista taking the quick lead only to have Raton come from behind and tie the game at five. The Lady Tiger defense took over and allowed only four more Lady Trojan points while Raton rallied for a 12 point lead. The second quarter saw both teams go pretty much tit for tat with both teams dropping in double digit points. Raton took the lead 32-19 lead into the locker room to end the first half.
Third quarter saw Raton rally and add another 21 points before referees started calling the fouls sending both teams to the free throw line. However they both missed more than they made leaving Raton with the 62-43 win at the buzzer.
