Raton hosted the Santa Fe Prep Griffins for the basketball season opener at home Monday night (April 5, 2021) and started it off with a bang and marks in the win column.
The JV took the floor first with Raton taking an early lead and holding on into half time. The Griffin only mustered 12 points in the second half as the Tigers defense took control and gave Raton the win by 24.
The varsity boys took to the floor in fine fashion taking a quick lead however the Griffins found the points and tied the game early in the first quarter. Raton mustered up the points to once again take the lead with strong rebounding and good shooting to end the first half on top by 14.
Third quarter action saw Raton hit the 20 plus mark in points to take a big lead. They continued the trend into the fourth as Coach Ted Kamp substituted to give all his players time on the court. A familiar face was also seen on the bench as Coach Eloy Brazil was in attendance to help out as Raton took the win.
