In Loving Memory of Jane Marie Medford

Long time Dalhart resident, Jane Marie Medford, went to be with our Lord in the early morning hours Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at New Life Fellowship Church in Dalhart, Texas.

Jane Marie was born on Friday, March 28, 1947, to Art and Elsie Lietzan in Ashland Kansas. The family moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colorado in June of 1949. She attended school in Cheyenne Wells starting with Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Cheyenne Wells High school in 1965. She started work at age 13 peeling potatoes at Erogenss Cafe and eventually moved up to being a waitress. After graduation, she moved to Denver and attended Airline Training School where she studied to be a flight attendant. While there she lived with an older Jewish family and learned to like lox and cream cheese on bagels. She met and married her first husband not long after moving to Denver. From this union came Austin and Kristina. As so many relationships do, they grew apart and were divorced in 1970. She moved back home to Cheyenne Wells and went to work at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she met Mamie Medford. An introduction was made between Jane and Mamie’s son, Jerry. They fell in love and were married on June 5th, 1971. They blended their two families together and eventually along came John and BJ.

Jerry and Jane left Cheyenne Wells and moved to Dalhart in 1974. Jerry farmed and Jane took care of the children and the home. When she needed a little peace and quiet she would drive a tractor and help on the farm where she could. After the children were older and could spend their time at home by themselves she went to work at the Lyin Bragg Truckstop waiting tables. After it closed she moved on to Neybars and then the Sands restaurant. When it closed she went to work for Frontier Fuel and then Toot N Totum at the North store until her passing. She loved making people smile with a kind word and held a special place in her heart for her customers. She loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. She would listen to the Beatles, the Statler Brothers, and George Strait and liked watching Blue Bloods, NCIS, and Cold Case. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her son Austin, her grandson Spencer, her parents, and one brother, Alan.

She is survived by one brother, Tom Lietzan of Hamburg, Iowa, her son Kelly Medford and wife Jill of Albuquerque, New Mexico, daughter Kristina Thaxton of Amarillo, sons John and BJ Medford of Dalhart. Grandsons Jordan Medford of Dalhart, Chase Thaxton, and wife Anna of San Diego, California. Chance Thaxton of Milton, Florida, and Clayton Medford of Denver, Colorado. Two granddaughters Kelby Medford of Burlington, Colorado, and Kasie Medford of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and one great-granddaughter Yumi Thaxton.
