In Loving Memory of Phillip Dale Hass

Phillip Dale Hass, 64, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, in Dalhart, Texas surrounded by his loved ones.  A private family service will be held at Central United Methodist Church and a public graveside will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Texas on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Phillip was born to Velma Lucille (Hutchins) and Marvin Samuel Hass on Friday, February 24, 1956, in Clovis, N.M., where he and his six siblings were raised.  He graduated from Clovis High School and went on to attend Dallas Institute, from there he worked in New Mexico and Texas and became a licensed funeral director for both states.

Phillip moved to Dalhart in 1982 to work for Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home, after a few years he became the owner and operator of Horizon Funeral Home.  He quickly became a well-known and beloved member of the community.  He has served so many families over the years by helping them with their grief and honoring their loved ones with their final goodbyes.  Phillip had so much love and compassion for his family, he was absolutely one of a kind and will never be replaced.

Beyond the funeral home, he served the city of Dalhart in multiple capacities over the years.  Phillip was the Citizen of the Year recipient in 2007.  Phillip was a member of the Lions Club and served as the President from 1989-1990, he was a member of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce and served as President in 1995.  Phillip served on the Economic Development Board, Planning and Zoning Board, Advisory Board, and many years as a city council member.  Phillip became Mayor of the City of Dalhart in 2015 and served until his passing.

Phillip was loving, kind, fair, encouraging, and hilarious (at least he thought so).  All those who crossed paths with him were truly blessed.  He fought hard for the years he had here with us, but he knew where he was going when he left this world and he is home in Glory free of pain and surrounded by all his friends and family he has helped send on before.

Phillip is survived by his daughter, Whitney Powers and husband Jonathan, their children; Chandler, Elijah, and Harper of Garden City, KS, his son, Cory Hass and wife Ashley and their children; Caiden, Wesson, Declan, and Briar of Dalhart, TX, the love of his life, Catherine Lenz Morgan, as well as, his bonus kids; Kyra Morgan and Austin Womble and Garrard Morgan of Dalhart, TX, his brother, Jim Hass and wife Judy of Clayton, NM, his three sisters; Sara Hass Kelly and son Sam of Houston, TX, Betty Perry and husband O.D. of Bayfield, CO, Barbara Barraza and husband Ed of Tularosa, NM, sister in law, Wanda Hass of Arlington, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, as well as, great and great-great nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Don Hass.
