East 10th Street Structure Fire

Raton Fire and Emergency Services and Colfax County Rapid Response were called to a structure fire east of East 10th Street Sunday night a little before 8:00 p.m.

 

Upon arrival fire fighters found a fully engulfed structure and began fighting the fire and provide grass protection in case the fire spread to the knee high dry grass surrounding the structure.

According to Raton Fire Chief Anthony Burk the structure was uninhabited at the time of the fire and suffered substantial damage. The structure is located on private property east of East 10th Street with no direct street access. Firefighters came through another piece of property to gain access to the fire scene. The location of the fire was finally determined to be 595 East 10th Street while the structure itself was behind other residences on 10th Street.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The structure the fire was located in was the building on the far right side of the frame in the middle with the white colored roof.
