Guidelines are in place for the health and welfare of our communities. Life is our most precious commodity. These guidelines – wear a mask, stay a distance, do not gather, wash your hands – are to protect life. Upon leaving the sanctuary of home to accomplish necessary chores, one observes that these guidelines are not being taken seriously. This invisible foe could rob any one of us of our most precious commodity. We hear community members say, “It is all up to God.” Why do humans blame God for their own unconsciousness and disrespect for this gift of life that has been bestowed upon us?
As the virus continues to take lives this story has come to mind. *****

One day, as torrential rains came down and river waters began to rise evacuation warnings were broadcast by TV and radio.  “Get out! Leave now! Go to higher ground.  Lives are in danger!”
One man called Dude said, “No problem.  God will save me.”  And he stayed in his house.
The police patrol and fire rescue drove the flooding roads.  “Mandatory evacuation, you must get out now!  We will get you to safety!”
The man called Dude said, “No problem.  God will save me.”  And he stayed in his house.
He was now on the upper floor and climbing to the attic when a boat came by.  The rescuer cried, “Get in, get in!  The flood waters are cresting!”
The man yelled back, “No problem.  God will save me.”  And he stayed in his house.
The flood waters began to lift his house from its foundation.  The man was on the roof.  A helicopter hovered over.  “Climb the rope!  I’ve come to save you!”
Dude yelled back, “No problem.  God will save me.”  And he stayed in his house.
The flood waters smashed the house into the bridges and debris of trees.  The man sank and drowned.

He rose and stood before the Pearly Gates.  “What do you want?” asked Peter.
“I want in.  I want to speak to your boss.  I believed in Him.  He let me down,” replied Dude.
So, the Big Guy ( you know, God Himself) arrives.  “What’s your problem?” He asks.
“I trusted in You.  I had faith in You.  Why didn’t You save me?”  said Dude.
“Yo, Dude, it’s wake up time.  First I sent out the warning by radio and TV.  You did not listen.  Then I sent the police and fire rescue.  You did not listen.  Then I came Myself in the boat.  You would not listen.  I, Myself, hovered the helicopter over your roof as the flood waters lifted your house.  You would not listen.  Who do you think I Am?  I did all I could and you would not listen.”

Friends, neighbors, community, please listen.  God did not create this virus. This virus is human caused and human spread. You are being warned to take precautions.  Please, wear a mask. Except for essentials please stay at home. Keep a distance. Wash your hands. Be responsible. Do your part. Stop the spread.
