Mr. Andy Ortiz, Superintendent

March 25, 2020:

I hope you and your families are well, and finding as much normalcy in the situation we are presently in as possible. As you know, this situation continues to evolve and we are receiving almost daily adjustments to best practice. The governor issued a Stay at Home Order effective Tuesday, March 24 at 8 a.m. The order restricts the gatherings of five or more people in outdoor and indoor spaces. This is intended to aggressively minimize person-to-person contact and ensure spread is migrated by social distancing and isolation.
Due to these additional restrictions, Raton Public Schools is responding as follows:
All buildings are closed to the public. No one other than office staff assigned to each location will be allowed to enter the administration and principal offices. We are limiting principals and secretaries time in the schools. They will be doing some of their work from home. School phone numbers are posted on our website (ratonschools.com) if you need to call the school. All teachers and staff are discouraged from coming into buildings. Custodians will continue to be onsite. At this point, schools will be closed until April 6th, if anything changes within that time we will post this on our website and KRTN.
Teachers and staff will be reaching out to our families in the district to see how our students are coping with this disruption in our daily lives. Raton Housing is handing grab and go meals to students in our community each weekday. We are also trying to get students some work to do while they are at home. Each school will give instructions on how they will get this to you. This work is an enrichment to help students review and continue to be engaged with the education process. Please encourage your child to do this enrichment. At this time grades will not be taken but please have children complete this work. Thank you to all the families and students for being patient during this time.
Given the increasing spread on COVID-19 worldwide and in the United States, all people should take the following precautions to protect themselves and help prevent further community spread:
Stay home and avoid public places when sick (i.e. social distancing)
Cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
Wash hand frequently
Avoid being within 6 feet (close contact) of a person who is sick
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces
