It was another one of those days Saturday afternoon February 15, 2020 that just didn’t work out for the Raton Tigers as they hosted the Santa Fe Indian School Braves for a district match that could help determine both team’s seating in the district.
With Raton wins it could have put Raton in a better position for the district but it simply wasn’t meant to be for all three boys teams as the Braves dominated the court. The c-team game saw SFIS pull out to a quick and decisive lead outscoring the Tiger by 18 points and then running way with the game on turnovers and failed shots. The final buzzer left Raton in the hole by 30 points with a Braves win 58-28.
The JV game went much the same way with the Braves outscoring Raton 25-8 in the first quarter. Santa Fe sacred in double digits all four quarters leaving Raton with an ever widening point gap to the end of the game. At the end it was a win for the Braves 72-31.
The varsity game went nothing like the game in Santa Fe earlier in the season when Raton lost by only two. Saturday Raton struggled to find the basket and only hit double digit scoring in the fourth quarter while the Braves hit double digits throughout the game. Ben Kamp fell cold until the fourth quarter when he could only muster eight points. Matthew Quartieri was the only Tiger to hit double digits with 16 points.
The Braves held strong double and triple teaming the big boys under the basket making it almost impossible to get a good shot off or make the rebound on the ones that did go up. At the final buzzer it was a district win for the Braves 59-47.
