In Loving Memory of Geneva Ellen Valouche

Geneva Ellen Valouche, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 28, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. Central Time at the First United Methodist Church in Texline, Texas with Jeff Bailey, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Texline Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Geneva Ellen Lane Valouche was born May 9, 1924 on the Lane family farm in the Hennessey Oklahoma Community to parents Robert and Ellen Lane. The family moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1930 to a farm in the Perico, Texas community where she and brother Gene were raised. Bob Lane and a cousin came to the farm in 1930 and built a small three-room home, had a well drilled and the family followed. Geneva graduated from Perico High School in 1942. The school was always short of teachers during World War II, so Geneva was asked to teach fourth and fifth grade classes during her senior year and after she graduated. After the war ended, Geneva worked for the Soil and Conservation Office in Texline making relief maps. She also worked for Byron Caddell Grocery, Harry and Mildred Poole in the Poole Drug Store in Texline. Geneva was also a substitute telephone operator in Texline. She supplemented her income by picking potatoes and grading potatoes and during this time she met Herbert Valouche of the Draper Community where his family farmed. Herb was farming potatoes and worked as a supervisor for the potato company. They were married on December 24, 1945 and were married for 26 years. They made their home in Texline. Herb became a carpenter and builder. Herb was also a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Stout and Sheriff R.C. Johnson for 24 years. Geneva was employed by the Texline Independent School District as an administrative secretary and business administer for 26 years until her retirement in 1988. She worked with eight superintendents and several principals. Geneva was a member of the Texline PTA, served as City of Texline Councilwoman, long time member of the Monday Night Bridge Club, member Texline Library Association, member of the Union County Hospital Auxiliary, and was Secretary/Treasurer for the Texline Cemetery Association. Geneva was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, taught Vacation Bible School, was secretary for the Texline Methodist Church Council and Chairperson of the Worship Committee. She held various offices with the Texline School Alumni Association. Geneva loved traveling, fishing and visiting with friends. She was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan. She has cruised in the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. Her long-time travel companion Doris Feerer of Clayton, New Mexico traveled to Yellowstone National Park, Dakotas, southeast and northeast tours of the United States. Geneva also enjoyed traveling and staying at favorite places in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Geneva was a long-time member of the Texline United Methodist Church and transferred her membership to Delavan United Methodist Church when Robert’s family moved to Delavan, Illinois in 2007. Geneva was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Gene, son Richard (1976) and husband Herb. (1971). The family would like to express gratitude to the Hopedale Medical Complex, The Commons Independent, Assisted Living, the Nursing Home staff and the Compassus Hospice.

Surviving family: Son; Robert and his wife Karen and their daughter Kelsey of Delavan, Illinois. Nieces; Helen Taylor, Jan Valouche, Joni Valouche and Jill Cortissoz and her husband John all of San Antonio, Texas and Linda Goheen and Sally Hoffman of Scottsdale, Arizona.
