He will also be dearly missed by 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents along with brothers Jack, Don, Chuck, Tom and Pete Segotta as well as sister Kathleen Ikenberry.
Jim loved his family dearly and continued to provide for them all until his passing. Becoming a grandparent and later a great-grandparent brought great joy to him. You could see his eyes light up and his voice became filled with love a “Poppy” spoke or visited with them. While still operating his business, the kids loved to to see him because they knew Poppy would let them have a “treat” before they left.
Many remember Jim as owner of Jim’s Exxon, where he ran his “full service” gas station for 30 years. Jim was a great supporter of all law enforcement organizations, but especially the New Mexico State Police. Jim was a proud supporter of the Raton Booster Clubs and many local organizations. He was elected and served many years on the Raton School Board and was also a member of Raton Elks Lodge 865.
Jim was a avid golfer and ha a standing Tuesday tee time with many friends. He also loved his Dodgers and Rams and would often declare to anyone who would listen what the managers/coaches were doing wrong. Jim also loved setting on his patio listening to what he called “real” country music as well as great gospel tunes. Saturday evenings would find him tuned into RFD television where he and Peggy would sit for hours and listen to the music and reminisce of days gone by. Later in life Jim and Peggy became members of First Baptist Church of Raton and regularly attended Sunday services where Jim quickly established his “seat”. Jim came to love the Lord and found comfort in Him in the end. Jim will be deeply missed by all who came to know him.
Visitation will be Tuesday December 10, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home in Raton. Services will be Wednesday December 11, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Raton with Rev. Rob Mayes officiating, burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Arrangements and celebration of love for Jim Segotta are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
