Raton Police officers were attempting to stop a vehicle in the early morning on Friday, August 23, when the suspect attempted to hit an officer with the vehicle. A high-speed chase ensued, eventually thru downtown Raton and ended at about 5:30 am with the vehicle crashing into both the Primo Bakery and Flat Mtn Trading Co. businesses.
The driver, Issac Ocana, 40, was extracted from the red Chevy Camaro by the Raton Fire Department, and transported to MCMC with what looked to be minor injuries.
The crash caused extensive, heavy damage as Ocana veered from the north-bound lanes of South 2nd street crossing over the median at Park Ave and continuing at a high rate of speed, crashing into the bakery, completely destroying it’s front, and the vehicle’s momentum carrying it thru the south wall of the Flat Mtn Trading Co, severly damaging that structure as well at 134 and 136 North 2nd Street.
After release, Ocana will be arrested on a number of felony charges including; Trafficking of Controlled Substances, Possession of meth and heroin, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Aggravated Fleeing, Tampering with Evidence, Criminal Damage to Property, False Vehicle Registration and possible others. Ocana also had numerous outstanding warrants, including several for Fleeing.
The 100 Block of North Second street was finally opened to traffic after being closed for several hours.
