Antonio “Rocky” Sanchez age 75 of Raton passed away Wednesday July 10, 2019 at his home.
He was born December 16, 1943 in Springer, NM, the son of Rocco and Josie Bernal-Sanchez. Rocky was a Viet Nam Veteran serving in the United States Army and dedicated thirty-eight years of his life to coal mining. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and loved watching the three races of the Triple Crown. Most of all, Rocky loved his family, his friends, Mexican food and Dr. Pepper.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rocco and Josie Sanchez, brother Robert “Bobby” Sanchez and granddaughter Rae-Anna Martinez. He is survived by his wife Lucille of the home, daughter, Nancy Sanchez and step-daughter Valerie Romero both of Raton, NM, son Antonio R. Sanchez Jr. and wife Layle of Portales, NM, and step-son R.P. Romero of Raton. Brothers, Raymond Sanchez and wife Rosella of Royal, AR., Roger Sanchez and Dennis E. Sanchez both of Raton. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Sanchez of Raton, four grandchildren, Raquel Martinez of Raton, NM and Haston, Aubrie, and Gavin Sanchez of Portales, NM.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Frank Cimino Jr. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 with Father William Woytavich as the celebrant and a meal will be provided in the parish hall. A private, family inurnment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements and celebration of love for Antonio “Rocky” Sanchez are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
