Raton at 1-10 hosted the 2-1 Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins Saturday for a district double header that added two to the win column for the struggling Tigers. The wins are a shot in the arm for the Tigers after coming off another double header loss to Texico earlier in the week.

Coach Mike Marez noted before the game that the boys were struggling at the plate. During the games today he switched out pitchers quite often as the the boys are restricted to so many pitches in a game especially this close to the games at Texico on Friday. In high school ball pitchers have to take a four day break if they pitch the maximum 120 pitches in a game. Marez kept his players today at less than 40 pitches each.

As the Tigers took a widening lead Coach Marez held the runners to one base, not to run up the score. The team is also in a rebuilding year so to speak as many of the players are first and second year members. The Quartieri twins Dylan and Matthew for example are credited with the wins Saturday as they started on the mound for Raton.

Raton however turned up the heat in the third inning and the second inning of the second game crossing eight players over home plate. Raton ended both games on the ten run rule in the fifth by holding Santa Fe Prep to single digits. Raton pitchers managed six strikeouts and eight walks in the first game and five strikeouts and three walks in the second game. Santa Fe prep pitchers managed to get four strikeouts and four walks in game one while going seven strikeouts and nine walks in game two.
