The St. Michaels Lady Horseman rode into town Saturday and took home wins in all three matches against the Lady Tigers as Raton begins district play for the 2018 season.
The C-Team games were fairly one sided as St Mikes came out strong and dominated the court making fewer mistakes than Raton.
The JV match wasn’t any better as Raton was sluggish on the court and simply couldn’t make things happen losing both games with more than 10 points. Raton did have one bright spot in the second game being down by 10 and coming back to with in two before St Mikes put the stop to that rally and went on for the win.
The first varsity game made Raton step back and take look at what they had to battle as the Lady Horseman with Mikayla Bohlman and Cassandra Rogers at the net were strong with several blocks that simply fell right back down the net for the point. Raton’s Ginger Baird and Kerrigan Weese along with Jadyn Walton simply weren’t effective against the height the Lady Horseman had at the net.
Game two faired better as Raton was able to find bare court with some of their shots. Also St Mikes seemed to falter a bit making more mistakes than they did in game one. Raton managed to keep the score close coming from behind to tie the game at 12 and 15 and briefly take the lead before St Mikes put it away.
Game three started out close but soon went south as the Lady Tigers Struggled against the front line of the Lady Horseman. Baird, Walton and Weese did manage to get more balls back over the net but when as the game marched on the point spread got bigger with St Mikes putting the ribbons on it the match in three.
