This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Bluewater Lake: Stephanie Bishop of Albuquerque caught and released a 39-inch tiger muskie July 25. She was using a silver and pink spoon. Kacie Rhodes of Albuquerque caught and released a 34-inch, 9.5-pound and a 38-inch 11.9-pound tiger muskie July 25. She was using a crank bait and a jerk bait. David West of Limestone, Maine caught and released a 39-inch tiger muskie July 28. He was using a water dog. Jaelyn Garcia of Albuquerque caught and released a 36-inch tiger muskie July 29 and a 38-inch tiger muskie July 30. She was using a silver and grey Rapalas. John Gonzales of Gallup caught and released a 38-inch tiger muskie July 28. He was using a jig. Weston Bowlin, age 5, of Albuquerque, caught and released a 34-inch tiger muskie and mom Natasha Bowlin caught and released a 37-inch tiger muskie July 30. They were trolling 7-inch Rapalas.
Eagle Nest Lake: Sophie Albert, age 8 of Oklahoma, caught an 18.5-inch rainbow trout July 27. She was using cheese PowerBait.
Elephant Butte Lake: Layla Rodriguez, age 9, of Clovis, caught several white bass and catfish July 28. She was using minnows.
Escondida Lake: Aiden Vanderwoude, age 10, Ostin Vanderwoude age 6 and Joseph Montoya, age 7, each caught their first catfish July 29. They were using hot dogs and shrimp.
Farmington Lake: Tara Balzano of Farmington caught a 23-inch carp July 23. She was using night crawlers.
Glenwood Pond: Aaron Gomez, age 11, Milayna Gomez, age 5, and Kaydon Jacquez, age 10, caught several rainbow trout with the largest being 14 inches July 27. They were using worms.
Monastery Lake: Beto Quintana, age 8, of Santa Fe, caught an 18-inch rainbow trout July 27. He was using a banjo minnow. Kaydence and Katelyn Romero, age 7, of Cochiti Pueblo, caught several 12 to 15-inch rainbow trout July 27. They were using PowerBait.
Ned Houk Ponds: Andres Romero, age 13, of Clovis, caught an 18-inch catfish July 26. He was using night crawlers.
Pecos River: Dominic Montoya Howland, age 10, of Santa Fe, caught a nice rainbow and several brown trout July 24. He was using earthworms. Fernie Renteria of Carlsbad caught and released a 22-inch largemouth bass July 23. He was fishing the river in Carlsbad and using cut bait under a bobber.
San Juan River: Nick Felix of Blanco caught a 24-inch brown trout July 28. He was using night crawlers.
Tingley Beach: Zachary Cardenas, age 5, of Albuquerque, caught a 22-inch catfish July 29. He was using worms.
The following report came in late but deserve a mention:
Bluewater Lake: Robert McIvor of Raton caught and released a 40-inch, 22-pound tiger muskie July 11. He was fly fishing and using a natural derp.

Northeast Fishing Report
Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and worms for rainbow trout.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near the town of Cimarron on Monday morning was 9.07 cfs. We had no reports from anglers on the river this week but trout fishing at the lakes has been good for anglers using PowerBait, small gold spinners and Pistol Petes.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was fair using worms and chicken liver for channel catfish. Fishing was fair using worms and PowerBait for trout. A few largemouth bass were caught by anglers using grubs and tubes. Adam Trujillo caught a 19-inch 3.5-pound largemouth July 28. He was using a silver grub.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was good using worms and small grubs for bluegill. Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, sassy shad and curly tail grubs for white bass. Fishing was slow to fair using curly tail grubs, custom painted spoons, bottom bouncer rigs and crank baits for walleye. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was fair using top water lures, ned rigs, senkos, tubes and creature baits. Fishing was good using shrimp, minnows, cut bait and liver for catfish.
Costilla Creek: Stream flow below Costilla Dam on Monday morning was 48.4 cfs. Fishing was good using caddis imitations, small hopper patterns and bead-head pheasant tail nymphs for brown and cutthroat trout.
Cowles Ponds: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, small gold spinners and salmon eggs for trout.
Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was slow.
Eagle Nest Lake: HOT SPOT FOR PERCH: Fishing continues to be excellent using worms, small grubs and PowerBait for perch. We had several reports on limits being caught. Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, worms, Panther Martins and Platte River specials tipped with PowerBait for rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species.
Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was good using spinners, PowerBait, worms and Pistol Petes for trout.
Fawn Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, worms, salmon eggs and spinners for trout.
Gallinas River: Fishing was good using salmon eggs, worms, copper John Barrs and bead-head hares ears for trout.
Hopewell Lake: Fishing was fair using worms and PowerBait under a bobber for trout.
Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Pistol Petes, Panther Martins, parachute Adams and bead-head pheasant tail nymphs for trout. The best action was reported by anglers fishing the early morning hours.
Los Pinos River: Fishing was good using worms, small spinners and copper John Barrs for trout.
Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, worms, banjo minnows and Pistol Petes for trout.
Morphy Lake: Work has begun on the dam and the lake will remain closed through the end of the year.
Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 34.8 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using spinners, salmon eggs, worms, stonefly nymphs and San Juan worms for brown and rainbow trout. Adam Archuleta was using spinners and catching brown trout. He reported the fishing as fair.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday morning was 58.5 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using mop flies, worms, Panther Martins, salmon eggs and PowerBait. Jordan Cypret of Lubbock, Texas caught an 18-inch rainbow trout while fishing the river just below the town of Red River. He was using salmon eggs.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 187 cfs. Fishing was good using mop flies, poundmeisters, stonefly imitations, elk hair caddis, Fire Balls, PowerBait and night crawlers for brown and rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow on Monday morning near Valdez was 8.77 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Mora: Fishing was fair using worms for trout.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday morning was 14.9 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was slow for all species.
Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing was good using worms for bluegill. Fishing was slow to fair using salt craws, chigger craws, curly tail grubs and senkos for smallmouth and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using chicken liver, punch bait and night crawlers for catfish. The best catfish reports came from anglers fishing at night. Fishing for walleye was slow. The surface water temp on the main lake was in the mid 80s.
Northwest Fishing Report
Abiquiu Lake: The lake level continues to drop, and anglers should use caution when launching boats. The Corps continues to evaluate conditions. Fishing was fair to good using bottom bouncer night crawler rigs, spoons and chartreuse curly tail grubs in 15 to 25 feet of water for walleye. Fishing was good using top water lures, tubes, spinner baits, worms and curly tail grubs for smallmouth bass. We had no reports on other species.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 135 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Andre Martinez of Albuquerque caught four largemouth bass this past week while fishing the Corrales Drain. He was using a Strike King spinnerbait.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, jerk baits, water dogs, hot dogs, large streamers and swim baits for tiger muskie. Fishing for trout and catfish was slow.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice. The area may reopen later this year.
Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 300 cfs and 689 cfs respectively. Trout fishing below El Vado was fair using bead-head hares ears, wooly buggers, salmon eggs and night crawlers for brown and rainbow trout. We had no reports from below Abiquiu.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was fair to good using hot dogs, homemade dough bait and chicken liver for catfish. Fishing was fair using minnows, worms, top water lures, jerk baits, crank baits and spinner baits for a mixed bag of crappie, perch, white bass and northern pike. Brian Cameron of Rio Rancho caught five white bass July 23. He was using a mini spinner bait with swim bait. Fishing was fair using jigs, salt craws, senkos, swim baits and crank baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. We had no reports on other species.
El VadoLake: Due to dropping water levels, the state park has closed off access to the boat ramp and use of motor boats. The lake remains open to watercraft such as canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. Bank fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait. The water is a bit murky.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was fair to good using elk hair caddis, black and olive wooly buggers, worms and salmon peach and yellow PowerBait for trout.
Heron Lake: Fishing was good using Panther Martins and PowerBait from the bank and from boats for rainbow trout in the 10 to 14-inch range. We had no reports on other species.
Jackson Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez near the town of Jemez on Monday morning was 11.5 cfs. Trout fishing on the upper and lower Cebolla was very good using worms, salmon eggs, mop flies, copper John Barrs and stonefly nymphs. Dave Menicucci also reported good fishing on the Rio San Antonio on the Valles Caldera National Park. They were using hoppers and beetles for very skittish brown trout. We had no reports on other streams.
Laguna del Campo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: Fishing was slow for all species.
Manzano Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was good using crank baits, jerk baits and spinners for northern pike. Fishing was good using ned rigs, drop shot rigs, chatter baits, baby brush hogs, tubes and curly tail grubs for smallmouth and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using worms and curly tail grubs for perch. We had no reports on other species.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow below Navajo Lake was 914 cfs on Monday morning. Fishing was good using klinkhamers, bead-head hares ears, root beers, RS2s, foam wing emergers and red annelids. Through the bait waters, fishing was fair to good using night crawlers, jerk baits, small spoons, PowerBait and copper John Barrs for a mixed bag of brown and rainbow trout.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs, worms, PowerBait and Pistol Petes for trout.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Central and Youth Ponds was good using hot dogs, worms, shrimp, liver and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest Fishing Report
Alumni Pond: Fishing was good using worms and hot dogs for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing for catfish was rated as slow to fair by anglers fishing at night and using liver, homemade dough bait and cut bait. We had no reports on other species.
Bill Evans Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was fair using curly tail grubs, tubes and crank baits for white bass. We had no reports on other species.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was good using liver, cut bait, shiners and shrimp for catfish. Fishing was good using curly tail grubs, crank baits, sassy shad, jerk baits, minnows and spoons for white bass. Fishing was fair using top water lures, ned rigs, finesse worms, jerk baits and crank baits for smallmouth and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair to good using worms for bluegill.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was fair to good using worms and chicken liver for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 72.4 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
