Faye Stevenson Brannon passed away on July 12, 2018, in Lockney Texas, at the age of 104. Even though she has lived in Floydada and Lockney, Texas, for the past few years, she still considered Clayton her home.
Funeral Services to be held Monday, July 16 at 10:00 a. m., at the First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with funeral arrangements under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Faye was born on June 22, 1914, in Vernon, Texas, to James Hugh and Una Combs Stevenson and in 1917 the family moved to Hayden, New Mexico to homestead. Faye grew up there with 4 sisters and 3 brothers and moved to Clayton to graduate from high school in 1933. After high school, she took some post graduate classes and worked at the county court house for a short time before beginning her career in retail stores. In 1941 she began working at J C Penney, first as a clerk and then a book keeper, a position she held until her retirement, with time out to raise her children. Faye married Owen Brannon on March 17, 1945 in Clayton and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1992. They made their home in Clayton, where they were active in the community and especially in the First Baptist Church, where she helped with hospitality, youth group activities and served for several years as the Secretary keeping meticulous minutes of the church business meetings. Faye was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, in which she held several offices including Noble Grand; and she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing and her true passion – quilting. She, often with her friend Juanita Libby, spent countless hours and made hundreds of quilts which were reputed to be some of the finest quilts made. In addition to her husband Owen, Faye was preceded in death by her parents J. Hugh and Una Stevenson, 4 sisters: Rubye Eikner, Lou Beasley, Dorothy Bray and Madge Howe; and 3 brothers: James Otis Stevenson, Thomas Stevenson and Wid Stevenson.
