Fred (Fredrick) William Tapia age 73 passed away on February 8, 2018 in Raton, NM. Fred was born on January 31, 1944 to Lee and Stella Tapia Fred loved to race his cars and work on them he loved the 1955 Chevy’s. He went to college for one year, then joined the Army from 1965 to 1970 and the National Guard. He worked in the York Canyon Mine and Allen Mine. He was a volunteer fire fighter and worked at Good Year Tire Store. He was with the Raton Police Department for 13 years. He liked hunting and fishing. He moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1995 and worked at Circus- Circus for 15 years and he was 1 of the shooters of MGM properties. He always liked to tell people he and his wife were married by Elvis Presley – but was not. In Las Vegas he had a rose garden where he grew large hybrid roses, he loved his rose garden. He moved back to Raton, June 2015, he set up a vegetable garden and loved working outside.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Stella Tapia, Brothers, Roddy Tapia, Henry” Sugar Bear” Tapia, and Dennis Tapia. Survivors include his wife Sherry Tapia and Sons; Mark Tapia and wife Lisa, Travis Tapia and partner Sammi Tackee, Michael Tapia. Step daughters; Marsha Angeli and partner Marty Fanelli, Donna Candelario and partner Justin Fiorino and Wendy Horner and husband Brent.
12 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, nieces and cousins. Memorial Services for Fred Tapia will take place March 10, 2018 at 11 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Raton with Rob Mayes officiating. Rite Of Committal and Inurnment will follow at a Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements for Fred (Fredrick) William Tapia are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
