Memorial service for Alex C. Marez 69, will be held in Lawton, OK, at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Mt. Scott Kiowa Methodist Church in Lawton, OK with the Rev. Jeffrey Haag officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Southwest Burials and Cremations.
Alex came into this world March 10, 1948, in Seaside California to Coldo and Sally Lopez Mares. He went home to be with the Lord in a hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas with family at his bedside. Alex, who had many friends and family who affectionately knew him as Diggy, Juarez, Poncho, Mongo, Big Man, and probably a few others. He grew up in Raton, New Mexico where he attended school. As a young man, be worked at a tennis shoe factory where he met his wife to be Judy Bonomelli. Alex married Judy in 1973; they just celebrated their 44th anniversary together. Alex moved to Lawton, OK in 1979 where he worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. His main joy in life was his family especially his grandchildren (all of them).
Alex is survived by his wife Judy, also his daughter Becky Marez and grandson Austin all of the home. One son Anthony Marez and his wife Crystal and their children Anthony Jr., Alex and Heavenlee of Lawton, OK. Alex is also survived by his six sisters Rose Mares of Raton, NM, Stella Huerta and husband Jesus of Raton, NM, Charlotte Casillas of Raton, NM, Veronica Sanchez of Victoria, TX, Elaine Hernandez of Raton, NM and Lucy Vigil of Fontana, CA, and five brothers, Joe Sanchez and wife Margaret of Raton, NM, Paul Mares and wife Sheila of Guymon, OK, Pat Mares and wife Carol of Raton, NM, Dean Mares and wife Susan of Fontana, CA Pete Mares of Fontana, CA. He also has many extended family members to include nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles.
Alex is preceded in death by his infant son Alex and infant daughter Naomi, his parents and grandparents Celso and Grace Lopez, Brothers Floyd, Lawrence, Leonard, Nash Mares and one sister Helen Mares.
