Fire fighters from Raton, Colfax County and Folsom were dispatched to a fire on Johnson Mesa at noon on Tuesday afternoon, January 3, 2017.
According to Raton Fire, a downed power line caused the fire that consumed about 28 acres of grass on the west end of Johnson Mesa near the microwave tower. Since the area is so isolated, firefighters spent most of the afternoon mopping up and making sure every hot spot was extinguished.
