After winning both of the regular season matches in five games each against Desert Academy the odds were in Raton’s favor for another winning match over the Wildcats for the district tournament championship.
While the Lady Tigers played their hearts out, they just couldn’t seem to make the points when they needed them the most Friday evening, November 4th. All three games stayed close as the both teams made blocks at the net and slammed the ball into open floor.
Desert Academy took the lead in game one and seemed to manage to keep a three point lead over most of the game for the win. The Lady Tigers however tried to make amends for the first game loss and took the lead in game two by as much as four, but as the game wore on the Wildcats managed to scratch their way back in with ties late in the game. The Wildcats finally finished it off after a couple of errant hits by Raton.
Game three was another close game early on as the score was tied at 11 but the Wildcats kept the pressure on and managed to take a 21-16 lead that Raton was unable to come back from ending the match with a 25-19 loss.
Both teams have earned spots into the state tourney and will begin that play later this week.
