It was homecoming week in Maxwell this week and the Bears hosted the Red Devils of Springer in what they hoped would be a revenge win over the Red Devils to make it a perfect homecoming game.
The Red Devils however had other plans as the Zac Caldwell powered the jump ball and set the pace for the rest of the game as Springer took an early lead and simply dominated the court. It was a few minutes into the first quarter before Maxwell scored on a free throw. The domination continued into the second quarter with Springer extending their lead to 38-22 at the half. Springer was helped out by Maxwell who seemed to have a hard time finding the basket despite several drives into the lane for the shot. The Red Devils also dominated the boards blocking out Maxwell’s 6-foot 8th grader Kolten Riggs.
Third quarter action saw Maxwell make progress and close the 20-point gap but never for very long as Springer’s fast break and controlled game kept Maxwell at bay. Springer continued into the fourth quarter with the aggressive play and sent Maxwell to the free throw line 10 times for a total of eight points. Maxwell shot eight of 10 yet even that did little to stem the Springer scoring. As the final buzzer sounded on the game it was a Springer win by almost 30 points 74-46.
