Michael Gene Abeyta, age 78 passed away unexpectedly in Aguilar, Colo September 8th 2026 with faithful Gigi by his side. Michael was born in Raton NM on November 4th 1947. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and after being honorably discharged he began his education in Law Enforcement at Trinidad State College, he then transferred to college in Denver to further his education.
He worked for many years in Denver as a police investigator. When he moved to Aguilar, he worked for Columbia records in Colorado City and then at Walmart in Trinidad. He loved to fish and hunt, and ride his motorcycle. He made many trips to Sturgis, South Dakota on his bike. Michael deeply loved his mother Georgia and spoiled her when she was in the nursing home, bringing her fresh cut flowers from their property in Aguilar, he also brought her, her favorite candy and beverage, Bud Light!
Michael was preceded in death by his father Floyd Abeyta, his beautiful daughter Samantha Jo, his aunt Emma Romero, two favorite cousins, Irene Sears and JoAnn Rogers. Left to cherish his memory is his loving mother Georgia J. Abeyta, (Pueblo, Co) cousins Eva Campbell, Jude and Angela Sears of Trinidad, Co. Good friends Steve and Theresa Sampson, Will and Sophie Martinez and Mike Bond.
