In Loving Memory of Martha Lopez

Martha Lopez, age 83, of Springer, NM, passed away peacefully on September 24th, 2026, surrounded by her children.

Martha was born on May 25th, 1943, in Wagon Mound, NM, to Eduardo and Josephita Martinez. To know Martha was to know that she would instantly be your friend. She literally loved everyone and told them so with a big smile. She once said that she tells everyone she loves them because Jesus loves us and we should share that love too.

Martha found joy in word search puzzles, reading the Bible, traveling, collecting rocks, attending her grandson’s hockey games (which earned her the nickname “Hockey Grandma” and made her their good luck charm), camping when her kids were small, and dancing with her husband. She was the type of mom who raised her kids to be good parents. Those little things may have seemed ordinary at the time, but they are now among the memories that will be treasured most.

Throughout her life, Martha touched the lives of many through her career in the public school system as a librarian and teacher’s aide, as well as early childhood development. She was involved in several Catholic societies and communities, including Encentros, CCD classes, the Alter Society, her local church fiestas, and much, much more.

Faith and family were at the heart of Martha’s life. Nothing brought her greater joy than her family. She loved watching grandchildren grow, celebrating their accomplishments, sharing holidays and family gatherings, and simply being together. Those who knew and loved Martha will remember her for her faith, love, and big smile.

Martha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children: son Patrick Lopez and his wife Ginny Arellanes; daughter Ami Arneault and her husband, Patrick J. Arneault; son Geno Lopez and his wife Leia Lopez; daughter-in-law, Rose Kuhlman; her grandchildren Katrina Abraham, Emilio Lopez, Andrew Gomez, Jenny Lucero, Patrick Z. Arneault and wife Liliana Arneault with their daughter Sophie, Olivia Cyphers and Jacob Cyphers, Diego Lopez, Fame Lopez, and Bear Lopez; her siblings Venny Muniz, Corrine Armijo and Ernestina Cordova as well as 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She had many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo and Josephina Martinez; her husband, Edwin Lopez; her daughter, Gloria Johnson, and her husband, Ray Johnson; her sons, James Lopez and Jake Lopez; her grandsons, Quintin Lopez and Jason Lopez; and her granddaughter, Natalie Lucero.

Martha was a devout Catholic who loved Jesus and waited her whole life for this moment to meet Him and see the face of God. Although we are heartbroken that she is no longer here with us, we take comfort in knowing that she is happy, at peace, and finally home in Heaven. We imagine her smiling, laughing, and reunited with those she loved who went before her.

Recitation of the Most Holy Roary will be held on Tuesday, September 29th at 10:00 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, NM. Burial to immediately follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery in Wagon Mound, NM. Reception to follow burial in Springer at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.

You were deeply loved, you will be deeply missed, and you will never be forgotten. As you told us in your final days, “Tomorrow is another day,” and as such, we will carry your memory in our hearts and honor your life by keeping your love, laughter, and traditions alive. Rest peacefully, Martha.
