Raton Police received a missing person report earlier in the week and had been looking for a female thought to be in the Raton area.
On Sunday September 20 Raton Police received calls of a person found in an abandoned and dilapidated trailer at 133 Price space 13. Upon arrival at the address at about 3:37 p.m. Sunday afternoon officers found a female body with clothing that matched the missing female.
Raton Police Chief John Garcia noted that the body had been there a while based on the amount of decomposition. The body was removed from the structure and was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office in Santa Fe for positive identification. Currently police are calling this a suspicious death. The autopsy will determine if there was any foul play involved and the cause of death. After a positive identification is made notification of next of kin will be made.
