Crews Bell, of Amarillo, passed away on September 22, 2026, with his beloved wife, Patricia, by his side.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, Texas, with Dr. Murray Gossett and Pastor Dan Carter officiating. Inurnment will be held on a later date at the Childress Cemetery in Childress, Texas.
Crews was born on October 6, 1938, in Childress, Texas. He grew up in a family that believed deeply in giving back—whether to individuals or entire communities—and in doing whatever they could to make life better for others. For Crews, that meant becoming actively involved in fraternal and civic organizations and in his church, all of which he served in many capacities beginning in his late twenties.
Winston Churchill is credited with saying, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” This was Crews.
A devoted Freemason, Crews served as Worshipful Master and was also a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, and Jesters. He was a dedicated Rotarian and Elk Member, and a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, where he served on church sessions for 35 years in Childress. He also served on the Shuler Restoration Board with Arts and Humanities in Raton, New Mexico.
Crews was a retired banker and rancher. To know him was to love him, and he was blessed with an abundance of friends from across the globe.
He and Pat were the perfect pair. They married on December 12, 1964, in Childress, Texas, and devoted the next 61 years to one another and to serving their communities. They treasured being involved in the lives of others, whether attending dinner parties and dances, hosting receptions, or entertaining family and friends. Being surrounded by the people they loved brought them tremendous joy and oh what a sight it was to see Crews and Pat waltzing across the dance floor especially to “Lara’s Theme,” one of their favorites.
Crews was profoundly grateful for the life with which he had been blessed, and he believed wholeheartedly in sharing those blessings with others. Even after his death, many people will continue to benefit from his generosity and from a life exceptionally well lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents and adopted father, Dick Bell; and by a sister, Anne Long.
Crews is survived his beloved wife, Pat; many loving nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors.
