Severo Romero, 71, completed his earthly journey and entered eternal life on Saturday, September 19, 2026. He was born on September 23, 1954, in Tinaja, NM, to the late Juan B. and Rosabel Romero. Severo was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Alice Rendon and Beatrice Montoya (Jake), and his brothers, David Romero (Tina) and Ed Romero.
Severo is lovingly remembered by his son, Severo Romero Jr. (Sheri) of Pueblo, CO, and his daughter, Christy Romero (David Balizan) of Springer, NM. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, CJ Casias (“Gentle Giant”), Chase Casias (“Big Guy”), Johnny Romero, and Marissa Romero.
Also mourning his passing are his siblings: Helen Sena (Jack, deceased) of Penasco, NM, Gloria Gallegos (Wilford, deceased) of Dallas, TX, Tony Romero (Esther) of Goodyear, AZ, Liz Romero (Dave Armijo) of Raton, NM, Juanita Gallegos, of Albuquerque, NM, Victor Romero (Barbara) of Denver, CO, Ben Romero (Stella) of Denver, CO, Ernie Romero, of Raton, NM, and Carol Gonzales (Eddie) of Raton, NM. He is further remembered by his brothers-in-law, Larry Gallegos and Robert Rendon; sister-in-law, Ruth Romero; his devoted companion, Barbara Gallegos; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A loyal Denver Broncos fan through and through, Severo proudly stood by his team in good seasons and bad, always believing the next game would be their best.
Severo was a dedicated, hardworking man and believed in the value of an honest day’s work. Though he was known for his stubborn and fiercely independent ways, Severo was a compassionate and generous soul that would give the shirt off his back to help family, friends or a stranger in need. A lifelong fan of Gunsmoke, he named his beloved cat, Ms. Kitty, after one of his favorite characters from the show. She proudly ruled the household and was one of his most loyal companions who brought him comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. Severo’s voice was larger than life and when he had something to say, everyone in the room, the next room or down the block heard it too. Those loud conversations are memories his family and friends will cherish forever.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary and the Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Patrick’s – St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton, NM with the date and time pending.
