Johnny Rios, 93, was born on April 7, 1933, in Trinidad, Colorado. He passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Jane Rios; his father, Tomas Rios; his mother, Inez Rios; his sister, Santana Rios; and his brother, Jose L. Rios. Also preceded in death by Dolores, Jean, Christina, Agnes, Tomas, Juan, and Rudolph.
Survived by his children: Yolie (Butch), Tom (Frieda), Annette, Rueben (Cathy), Antoinette (Carlos), Lysia, Mario (Sara), and Johathon (Pati) Rios. Also survived by Dolores, Josephine, Daniel, Evelyn, Gilbert, Olga, and Linda.
John has by 28 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
He proudly served as an M-19 tank driver in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-1953.
He loved playing and teaching pool, playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. He cherished time with his grandchildren and had special nicknames for almost all of them.
John was a hardworking man, he held several positions throughout his career, beginning at the Trinidad Brick Yard and retiring from Denver Opportunity, where he worked as an immigration counselor.
After retiring and returning to Trinidad, he became commander of VFW Post 984. He took great pride in the Post’s service to combat veterans and their families.
Grandpa’s warmth, humor, and authenticity made everyone who crossed his path feel comfortable, special, and valued.
The family extends special thanks to the Vet Center, his fellow veterans, and his good friend John Pierce, all of whom he said were always there for him.
Dad will be dearly missed and forever remembered by everyone who knew and loved him.

Visitation: Monday, September 28, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Comi Chapel Trinidad, CO
Rosary: Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 9:30 am , Funeral mass at 10:00 am at Trinidad Catholic Church, Interment to follow at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Anthony Ortega, Tomas Rios, Mitch Rojo, Jesus Rodrigues Kaden Rios and Godson Frank Alex Ortega.
Gift Bearers: Gabe Trujillo and Malachi Arellano-Felthager.
