John David Salazar, 58, died peacefully surrounded by family Sept. 15, 2026. He was born in Denver, Oct. 15, 1967, to Elmer and Rosella (Medina) Salazar. He was a resident of Trinidad and Raton.
He especially loved listening to Spanish music, watching Westerns, and football (of course, the Denver Broncos). He also loved playing the lottery, sweepstakes and taking walks where he would meet and talk with people. Those who he met on the walks loved meeting and talking with him. While on his walks he was always looking down for treasurers, which he delighted if finding and sharing with people. He did this in both Trinidad and Raton where he last lived. His other love was playing Candy Crush, although his scores did frustrate him immensely at times to his family’s consternation. He had great strength and dignity while battling cancer and never asked for help or complained about the challenges. His hospice nurses shared their admiration for how he handled his health issues.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Corrina Salazar, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is survived by his sisters Josie Salazar, Diane Salazar Blatnick; brothers Elmer (Angela) Salazar Jr., George Salazar and Jamie Salazar; brother-in-law Bill Blatnick and numerous nieces’ nephews and cousins. He is also survived by and very close to his uncle Andy Bernal.
A scriptural memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow at a later date.
The family would like to share that they will always miss his presence and that he loved showing the traditional peace sign as a greeting.
