In Loving Memory of Carolyn Velasquez

Carolyn Velasquez, 64, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, she faced each day with remarkable strength, determination, and unwavering love for those around her.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Cordova, and her brother-in-law, Joe Lopez.
She is survived by her longtime friend and honorary brother, Paul King; her two daughters, Misty (Corey) Gomez and Amanda Velasquez; and her five beloved grandchildren, Johnny (Kary) Gomez, Asia (Joshua) Case, Koby Gomez, Koriann Gomez, and Ezekiel Velasquez-Trujillo.
She is also survived by her eight siblings: Larry (Linda) Herrera, Ernest (Lucille) Herrera, Ruth Cordova, Juanita Lopez, Ramona (Gilbert) Romero, Anthony (Michelle) Cordova, Denise (Thomas) Martinez, and Valeria (Lee) Gillespie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Carolyn had a deep love for animals and was a proud supporter of the Second Amendment. She found great joy in crocheting and many other crafts, and she had a lifelong passion for music, especially playing the guitar. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her kindness, and the love she so freely shared with her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 236 S. Third Street, Raton, New Mexico. The service will be officiated by Pastor Cory Flanagin.
Carolyn’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, laughter, strength, and legacy will never be forgotten.
