In Loving Memory of Cipriano R. Montoya

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cipriano R. Montoya, age 79, of Trinidad, Colorado, who passed away peacefully of natural causes at his residence on July 20, 2026.

Born on December 31, 1946, in Trinidad, Colorado, Cipriano was the son of Cipriano Montoya and Ida (Gonzales) Bowman. A lifelong resident of the Trinidad area, he was a proud graduate of Trinidad State Junior College and cherished the community and traditions that shaped his life.

Cipriano was known for his love of family, his appreciation for music, and his warm spirit. He embraced his roles as a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather with pride and devotion. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, his stories, and the love he shared with family and friends throughout his life.

For the past 30 years, Cipriano shared a devoted and loving partnership with his soulmate, Abelina (Evelyn) Rios. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and enduring companionship.

He was a member of Guadalupe and remained connected to his faith and community throughout his life.

Cipriano was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Bowman and Cipriano Montoya; his stepfather, Lee Bowman; his sister, Dora Powell; and his brothers, Sam Bowman and Will Bowman.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his soulmate, Abelina (Evelyn) Rios of Trinidad; his children, Amanda Montoya of Colorado Springs and Ryan Montoya of Mead; and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Asante Harrison of Aurora, Matasiya Candelario of Trinidad, and Winter Montoya of Mead, along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

A graveside service will be held at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at St. Joseph’s Hall.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Abelina (Evelyn) Rios.

Cipriano’s legacy lives on through the love he gave, the family he cherished, and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
