The district game between Clayton and Raton got off to a late start despite having been rescheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon April 11, 2025 due to umpires not being able to make it to Raton until 5:00 p.m.

It was almost 5:30 when the game began with Raton’s Azden Romero on the mound. Romero struck out the first two batters and a hit by Corbin Scott to second baseman Chance Middlebrook got the third out with a short throw to first baseman Braylon Walton.

Middlebrook took the first hit and came around the horn on a hit by Romero for the first Raton run. Two more runs would come home before the fireworks began in the top of the second inning. Max Leal was up next for Clayton however he was not at the plate when the umpire called batter up, apparently a time out had been called but the umpire did not hear that. Once Leal was at bat he made the hit and went to first. From there he went on to second and the umpire sent him back to first and language flew. Leal was ejected from the game and shortly after Clayton Head Coach Mario Trujillo questioned the call by the field umpire and made a comment and he too was ejected from the game by the field umpire. As the events further unfolded Trujillo refused to leave the field and go to the Clayton bus. After further conversation with Raton Head Coach Robby Armijo and Raton’s assistant AD Brock Walton the umpires deemed the situation as unsafe to continue play and called the game after 1.1 innings with Raton leading 3-0.
