In Loving Memory of Maryann Gonzales

Maryann Gonzales, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully to her eternal home on March 10, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family.

Maryann, born on December 25, 1931, in Miami, NM to Marcella Gonzales dedicated her life to caring for others, raising 14 children and 2 brothers with unwavering love and strength. In her early years, she was known for her savory meals when she worked as a cook at the CS Ranch. Later she worked at Philmont Scout Ranch as a Nursery and Small Fry Director, where she was known for her hard work and warm heart.

She was the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family, leaving behind 14 children: Christina (Robert) Martinez, Margaret Gonzales, John Gonzales Jr., Lawrence Gonzales, Esther (Victor) Padilla, Lucy (Roland)Martinez, Nora (Antonio) Padilla, Eva (Edward) Crespin, Manuel (Brenda) Gonzales, Mary Lou (John) Chavez, Mary Alice (Blair) Montoya, Roy (Georgiana) Gonzales, Robert (Anita) Gonzales, and Daniel Gonzales. Her legacy continues through more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Lucy Mondragon, and Carmen Sena along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Maryann was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, John Gonzales Sr.; her mother, Marcella Medina; her brother, Arthur Garcia; her sister, Francis Martinez; her granddaughters, Annette Padilla; Carolyn Stefan; her grandson, Gregory Looper; and her great-grandson, David Padilla.

Maryann’s kindness, resilience, and deep love for her family and faith will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, on Friday April 25, 2025, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.  with Father Trieu as the Celebrant.  Inurnment will follow at the Sweetwater Cemetery in Colmor, NM.  A family procession will travel through Miami, NM., to Sister Hildegard Smith Parish Hall in Cimarron, NM, where a luncheon will be held in Maryann’s memory.

Arrangements for Maryann Gonzales are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
