Roy/Mosquero Blue Topple Dora to Advance in State Playoffs

Longhorn Gym in Roy was another rowdy place Saturday night March 8, 2025 as the #5 seed Roy/Mosquero Blue hosted the #12 seed Dora Coyotes for the first round of state playoff games that are held local gyms.

The game started out a little slow but quickly saw the Blue start scoring with Ayden Clavel and Ethan Hazen dropping in 3-pointers while the Blue defense held Dora to only four points two if which came at the free throw line by Gunnar Tipton. The game was a physical game as the boys battled under the basket for rebounds and put backs.

As the second quarter moved along both Clavel and Hazen added another nine points from three point territory. by the end of the second quarter Roy/Mosquero had rallied up a significant lead 40-14.

The Dora defense increased the pressure on the Blue and worked to make turnovers which resulted in only a 10 point quarter for Roy/Mosquero. The fourth quarter saw the Coyotes pick up the shot pace and outscored the Blue 23-17. The fourth quarter also saw Gunnar Tipton and Carson Kircher foul out with Blue Ike Smith and Ayden Clavel finding their way to the bench late in the quarter. When the final buzzer sounded Roy/Mosquero marked the win column with a 67-48 score.

Roy/Mosquero will travel to Bernallilo High School to play the #4 seed Magdalena Steers at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night March 12.
