The Questa Lady Wildcats scored 78.5 points as a team and needed them all to hold off the Raton Lady Tigers (70) and the host Cimarron Lady Rams (69) in the Cimarron Memorial Track Meet on Saturday, March 30.
Questa used five first place blue ribbon efforts from junior Alyse Lovato (high jump, long jump, triple jump, 100 meters, 400 meters), and two blue ribbons from senior Alivah Santistevan (javelin, discus) to propel the Lady Wildcats to the team win.
Raton was in the hunt for the top team trophy with Kalynn Salazar winning the gold in both the 1600 meter run (6:27.95) and the 800 meter run (2:49.17). Raton’s Relay teams also took two first-place medals. One in the 4×100 (:54.70) with Daisy Wingo, Reize Trujillo, Anisia Martinez and Leticia Marquez and the girls 4×400 with Martinez, Marquez, Paige Lemons and Trujillo passing the baton in 4:47.30 and finishing some 22 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Martinez also finished third (:19.82) in the 100 meter hurdles, just a second behind the winning time.
Reize Trujillo (:28.58), Leticia Marquez (:29.22) and Paige Lemons (:29.62) took the top three slots in the 200 meter final with a blanket finish that earned the team 16 points in one event. Marquez ran a :13.48 in the 100 meters, good for second place and was only .06 behind the winner Lovato, with Raton’s Daisy Wingo just 1/2 second behind her for third
Cimarron’s Elizabeth Ricklefs won the pole vault, with teammate Margarita Weir finishing third, while the Lady Rams Abigail Martinez heaved the shot 26-02.25 which was two feet further than the second place finisher, then Des Moines Jadyn Atwater was fourth followed by Maxwell’s Anita Hoy to get points for their teams. Martinez also finished second in the javelin with teammate Jerelyn Salazar earning points for a third place finish throwing the spear. Cimarron’s Weir also was runn-up in the discus with teamate Cheyenne LeDoux getting third and Maxwell’s Hoy earning points with a fifth place put.
Des Moines Lady Demons scored 25 points and finished 7th in the 12 team field and was lead by Hayley Brown’s red-ribbon perfomances in the long and triple jumps, and a third place in the 4oo meters
Cimarron’s landry Brown finished second in the 3200 meter run.
