Gary E. McQueary Obituary
Gary McQueary’s soul and spirit sailed into the mystic on February 10, 2025.
Gary Everett McQueary was born to parents William E. (Mac)McQueary and Ruth E. McQueary on April 24, 1952, in Raton, NM.
A graduate of Raton High School in 1970, earning his BA & MBA from the University of New Mexico in 1975, and continuing his education by earning a Masters in International Business from the University of Denver in 1996; Gary always had a quest for knowledge and education. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner, and especially enjoyed sharing that thirst with family, friends, and his students as an Adjunct Professor at the UNM Anderson Graduate School of Business from 2001 to 2004.
Gary returned to Raton following graduation from UNM in 1977 to work as an Accountant for Vermejo Park Corp. before embarking on his career in International Management which took him around the world.
Worked for Morrison-Knudsen Co. Inc. from 1978 to 1986 as a Senior Accountant on the Saudi Arabia Consortium project, and then as Business manager and Chief Accountant on the Cerrejon Coal Project in Barranquilla, Columbia.
From 1987-1992 Gary managed a large civil project in Ponce, Puerto Rico while employed by Dillingham Construction International Inc.
Returning to the States, employed by CH2MHill International from 1993-1996, he was a member of the core implementation team of JD Ewards’ Global Job Cost Project. Ultimately, NM became home once more working as a Financial Officer for Colfax County from 1997-1999, as Project Finance Manager for Austin Commercial, as an Adjunct Professor from 2001-2004, as Colfax County Manager in 2006, then as an Enrolled Agent, he joined the team at Larry W. McQueary CPA through 2015.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Mac and Ruth McQueary, parental grandparents Andrew and Cora McQueary, maternal grandparents Howard and Rae Laughlin, beloved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and his furry companion Buddy.
He is survived by his sister Elaine Lipe and her husband Bob of Roswell, NM; brothers Larry McQueary and wife Kathy of Raton, NM and Howard McQueary of Des Moines, WA. He is also survived by nieces April Fissel-Chokshi, Laurrie Wagner and families; nephews Kevin Lipe, Doran McQueary, Kenny Lipe, Brad McQueary and William McQueary and families; as well as beloved cousins, and countless friends he made along his journeys in life.

Gary’s family invites you to join us in a Celebration of Life being held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Raton Elks Club 865 from 1-4pm.
