In Loving Memory of Mitzi Evelyn (Kosernik) Arnone

Mitzi Evelyn (Kosernik) Arnone age 98 1⁄2 passed away on February 16, 2025, in
Trinidad, Colorado.
She was born on July 18, 1926, to Joe and Frances Kosernik in Ideal, CO. Her
family moved to Aguilar, CO when she was in second grade, and she proudly
claimed Aguilar as home for the rest of her life.
Mitzi graduated from Aguilar High School in May 1944 and shortly after that
began working in the Las Animas County Clerk and Recorder Office. On January
15, 1975, she was sworn in as the first woman ever to be elected to an office in
Las Animas County and served as an elected official until she retired in 1986.
Upon retirement, she continued to work part-time in the County Clerk’s Office
for several years. She truly enjoyed her job and felt fortunate to work with the
office staff.
Mitzi is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert (Jersey) Arnone
and her sisters Frances (Leo) Scarafiotti and Peppy (Mike) Machone.
Mitzi is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She
felt fortunate to be called “Aunt” by many people unrelated to her.
She enjoyed visits and phone calls, spending time with family and friends, going
to Laughlin, Nevada and Cripple Creek. She was an eternal optimist – always
ready to purchase lottery tickets or participate in baseball or football pools, just
to make the games more interesting. She was a Rockies fan and a Sunday after-
noon quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
The family wishes to extend deep appreciation to the staff at Trindad Rehabilitation
Healthcare Center and Mt. Rose Health Center for their loving care and support.
Honorary escorts are beloved family and friends.
Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Jeganmari Thangavel, HGN at St. Anthony Church in Aguilar at 10am on March 6, 2025.
