Melvin H. Shiveley, age 80 passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, with his family by his
side. He was born on February 28, 1944, in Trinidad, Co to Robert and Lucille (Bueno) Shiveley.
He attended Trinidad Catholic School until age 17 and then joined the military and served in the
Navy until 1965. While serving in the United States Navy aboard USS Princeton LPH5 he was
deployed to the Vietnam War. He then married his loving wife Shirley with whom he created an
incredible life for 59 years. Melvin always provided a good life for his family while working in
Trinidad as a parts clerk at the Chevy garage until 1968 and then was employed to work at the
Allen Mine as an underground miner and then later as an electrician in the warehouse. In 1987
he went to work for the Mine Safety and Health Administration as a federal mine inspector until
retirement. Melvin loved life, loved his family, and always was strong in his faith. He always
made the impossible possible and it never mattered how long you knew him; he left a huge
impression on your life. Melvin was a treasured husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa,
brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. His passing leaves an emptiness in our hearts, but his legacy
will carry on through each of us.
