In Loving Memory of Sonja Dianne Latham

Sonja Dianne Latham (82), of Springer, New Mexico passed away on November 2,
2024 at the BeeHive Homes in Albuquerque, NM. She was with her family and
died peacefully.
Sonja was born on July 4, 1942, in Brady, Texas to Hugh Benjamin Cox and Cora
Mae (Chesser) Cox. She spent her youth in Brady, TX, and in Las Cruces, NM. She
graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1960. She met her husband, John
Latham while working as a carhop at Leo’s Drive-In in Brady. They were married in
Brady on August 27, 1961, and had three children: A.R., Lorrie, and Kelly. Sonja
enjoyed being a homemaker and loved cooking (especially baking) and caring for
her husband and children. Sonja devoted her life to her family. She was a
generous mother and loved to bestow gifts to her loved ones. She worked as a
nurse’s aid at Miners’ Colfax Medical Center in Raton, NM, and at Colfax General
Hospital in Springer, NM in the 1980s and 1990s. She was a lifelong caregiver to
her husband and children She was given a miniature Dachshund in 2013 which she
named Jo. She developed a loving and sweet attachment to Jo. She attended the
First United Methodist Church in Springer.
Sonja was preceded in death by her husband, John Latham, and by her
stepbrothers: Johnny Weeks and Danny Weeks. She is survived by her sister-in-law
Cynthia Suon (Jerey) and brother-in-law: James Warren Latham, her stepbrothers: Tommy Dean Weeks and Jim Bob Weeks. She is also survived by her
three children: A.R. Latham (Karina Latham), Lorrie Latham and Kelly Latham as
well as her grandchildren: John Riley Latham, Luke Friedferg and Hannah
Townsend.

It will be a private service with immediate family, the date has not been determined.
