Pecos Sweeps District Games Against Raton Saturday for TigerFest

Raton hosted the Pecos Panthers and Lady Panthers Saturday January 25, 2025 for TigerFest and felt the sting as Pecos destroyed the Tigers in all four games of the district matchup.

The JV girls were the only team to have the lead at the end of the first quarter with a 6-4 score. The second quarter however saw Pecos do a 26 point quarter holding Raton to only two points. Raton outscored Pecos in the third despite missing 11 of their 17 free throws but fell short in the fourth for a 50-22 final.

The JV boys took the court next and quickly fell behind as the Pecos defense held strong and the offense dropped in three 3-pointers to begin the game. With the exception of the second quarter Pecos outscored Raton with double digit scores. At the final buzzer it was a 58-35.

The Varsity girls had a slow start to their district game with Pecos as a very aggressive Pecos defense simply controlled the Lady Tigers and holding them to only two point in the first half of the game. Raton could only muster up six points in the second half as Pecos Head Coach Lawerence Ragland kept the pressure on and finished the game with a 56-8 final.

In the final game of the evening the Tigers came out held their own with a tie game at 16 to end the first quarter. The second quarter left Raton fans shaking their heads and wondering what happened as Pecos all but shut Raton down holding the Tigers to only eight points while dropping in 27 of their own. Third quarter action was better for Raton but it was still to little. The fourth quarter saw Raton battle back outscoring Pecos by five 21-16 however they simply couldn’t overcome the second quarter deficit.
