William “Bill” Carey Rountree passed away on January 20, 2025, in Nephi, Utah. He was born on March 25, 1944, in Raton, New Mexico to William Howard Roundtree and Jane Elliott Rountree.
Bill spent his formative years on the family ranch east of Maxwell, New Mexico. After graduating from Raton High School in 1963, he embraced a life deeply rooted in the outdoors. As a ranch hand, Bill found joy in the open skies, wildlife, and being surrounded by nature and animals. He had a passion for hunting bears and mountain lions alongside his trusted hunting dogs and friends, creating lasting memories. Bill also raised homing pigeons and learned to pilot and fly a small plane.
In later years, Bill resided in Helper and Eureka Utah. For 25 years, he shared a special bond with his significant other, Bridget Bills. Together, they enjoyed camping, riding four-wheelers, and taking short trips with Bridget’s grandchildren. Their time together was marked by simple pleasures and meaningful companionship.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sarah Jane Rountree, and grandson Nicholas Charles Rountree. He is survived by his sons Charles Ray Rountree and Jeremiah Paul Rountree; sister Betty Jane Bowers; grandchildren Justin Troy Rountree, Kiarra Jane Rountree, Zoie Rountree, and Nettie Rountree; great-grandchildren Harper Grace Rountree and Kenai Rountree; and companion Bridget Bills.
Bill and I graduated from Raton High School with the class of 1963. Bill was a quiet young man who was always a gentleman when around me. I knew he would be successful in the profession he chose. My sincerest condolences to his family.
