Raton hosted Maxwell Saturday January 4, for their first games in the new year and up for grabs was the boys cowbell.
The 8th grade boys took the court first with Maxwell taking the lead but never getting very far ahead and ended the game with a 55-45 win over Raton.
The girls varsity teams hit the court next where the Lady Bears took the early lead and gradually extended the lead through out the ball game. The Lady Bears held Raton to single digit scoring except for the third quarter where Raton scored 13 to Maxwell’s 16. It’s a building year for Raton Lady Basketball and with each game there is improvement that can be seen.
The boys battled it out for the cowbell as Raton took the quick lead but soon fell behind. Again as the game moved along the Bears slowly and methodically extended their lead. As the fourth quarter rolled around Raton managed to outscore Maxwell 21-17. Maxwell aided their scoring with 12 3-pointers during the game with Alex Black dropping in five of the 12.
