Buddy Wayne Baker Senior age 91, was born July 1, 1933, in Sugarite, NM and peacefully left us on December 7th, 2024 at MCMC with his loving wife and oldest daughter by his side.
Buddy served for our country in the Korean War as a radio operator, and was later married to Vivian Jane Lark on October 29, 1959, and had a loving, long life of 65 years together. Buddy was a lifelong member of the Elks Club in which he was Exalted Ruler 3 times. He also was a life member of the VFW.
Buddy worked for Greyhound for 36 years and was 1/2 owner of A&B painting, and then drove a belly dump truck working with Butt Brothers Trucking. He then later worked for Yaksich-Long Funeral Home as a greeter, where he was well known and always had a welcoming smile and fire-cracker personality. Buddy loved dancing and going out with his wife, and he always loved a nice, cold Budweiser, but even more so, he loved to collect the Budweiser mugs and had a huge collection of Budweiser items. He also loved watching sports and he was a huge fan of the Denver Broncos and a fan of NASCAR with his favorite drivers Dale Earnhardt Senior & Jr.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Jenny Baker, brother Benny and wife Shirley Baker, brother Mickey Baker, and his in-laws and many friends.
Buddy is survived by his wife Vivian Jane Baker, sister-in-law Jo Madeline Baker and her son Tommy Baker, and his family. Buddy’s children Kathy and husband Jesse Bowman of Raton, Dawn Baker and partner Jeff Mailloux of Monument, Colorado, Buddy Baker Jr. and wife Brianna Baker of Virginia, and Amanda Williams and husband Doug Williams of Raton. Grandchildren Shelly and husband Tony Salazar, Jacob Benavidez, Estrella Benavidez, Brandon Baker, Devon Baker, Taylynn Baker, and AJ Salazar.
Great Grandchildren, Teanna and Sean Salazar, Keirra, Jacob and Rayelynn Benavidez, Izarra and Orion Benavidez and cared-for children Karma and Chloe Schuster. His great, great, great grandchildren, Harmony and Hallios and God-son Carl Unger. Last but not least, special friends Carol and Danny Valenzuela, Hector and Anita Verdin, Diana Dixon, John Johnson and Raetina and kids.
At Buddy’s request there will be no services. His ashes will be spread where he was born at Sugarite on a future date to be announced by his family, and anyone who would like to take part in that will be welcome.
